"how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings"

the first weekend in every april and october, we get to relax at home and watch general conference. it's actually my semi-annual favorite sunday of the whole year. and not just because I get to sit and watch church in my pajamas. though, that is a definite plus.
however, watching hours of anything will give you some sort of cabin fever. so in search of lunch, mitch and I set out on a little walk and we stumbled upon this momma hen and her little baby chicks. I have actually seen this family many times before and always think, "self, you should get some pictures of of that cuteness." but I am usually sans camera. not this time, however. she steadfastly corralled her baby chicks as they hopped around. it really felt like spring. except that we never really had winter here, so...
we found pizza and I made the executive decision that we would eat it poolside because I wasn't quite ready to go back to the apartment yet. once there, we met another little friend.
our pool is home to this rather large family of iguanas and the tourists are always feeding them. guiltily, I will admit that we did, too. I hope that little guy is okay. it's just that he was giving mitch begging eyes, and he can never resist a hungry critter. probably because he is so hungry most of the time himself. this guy really liked pepperonis. like I said, I really hope he is okay.
it was so nice to get out with mitch on a perfectly overcast day. it's strange, but gloomy, blustery days are our absolute fave. and with mitch getting ready for blocks and finals, it was really nice to just sit back and have a little fun together. what fun did you have over your weekend?

Hey - so I see you've changed your header. I like it - not sure which one I like better.
ReplyDeleteI thought your mama hen pic especially appropriate - particularly since two different speakers in the Saturday morning session used that scripture and example. I hope we are the ones who seek to be gathered, and not those who "would not". I guess since we were all watching #ldsconf , we can consider ourselves part of that club.
Thanks for a thoughtful post.
yes, I get so restless with the look of my blog. I actually like this one a lot better..but I didn't do it. thanks, etsy!
Deletethe speakers in the saturday morning session are actually what made me think to pair the two. and I really like the chickens here on the island. they are adorable.
So where did you get the blog header? My experience with blog headers and etsy was... um... unsatisfactory.
