I hope your easter was wonderful. even though we were far from home, we managed to enjoy ours fairly well. the weekend was a combination of study-study-study and hurry-quick-let's-have-fun { but I promise to only show you the fun parts }. both the former and the latter left us both positively exhausted.
001 :: apparently, beach sitting is customary for good friday in the caribbean. and I would happily make that an ongoing tradition. hey, I said I was looking for some of my own, right? though that might become a little more difficult when we move away from this sunny paradise. I'll have to work out the kinks in that plan when the time comes. we kicked off our long weekend with a beach bbq on one of the prettiest beaches we've been to since we've lived here. called le galion. sounds so french and fancy, yeah? well it wasn't, really. french, yes. fancy, no. just sand and water and umbrellas. but somehow the sand was whiter, the water was clearer, and the waves were way more fun to bounce around in. there was sunshine and good food and friends and volleyball. unfortunately, the only picture I got of us was this ::
a test shot that mitch photo bombed. but it still captured us perfectly. if you didn't know us before, you definitely do now.
002. it's no secret. you all probably know by now that I'm a procrastinator through and through. I always got papers done the night before. I'm the last to watch the latest youtube sensation. the least likely to be at the grand opening of, well, anything. and evidently, I was the last to { not } purchase store-bought egg dye. on an island, there are only so many and I was about three weeks too late, it seems. typically, waiting until the last minute does leave me in this sort of pickle. so I have plenty of practice finding my way out of it. what's my secret? I get on pinterest. it's a fool-proof method. example :: diy naturally dyed eggs. booyah.
a lot of the dyes worked great. others..not so much. berries :: awesome. tumeric :: a little too awesome. it dyed everything in its wake yellow. red cabbage :: useless. spinach :: stinks { literally and figuratively }. I added some food coloring to the failures. the whole time I felt like a mad scientist. I could really get used to that.
and mine. go figure.
003. and then there's easter sunday. I decided a tradition that we can do anywhere and everywhere was eating easter lunch out-of-doors, picnic-style. and, for the record, I'm a genius. we ate our egg salad sandwiches and kinder surprise in this charming little natural cave right below our apartment building. it kept us dry from the growing tide and cool from the beating sun. and we also made some new friends who were happy to snap a few pictures of us ::
and then there were some we snapped ourselves.
holidays always sort of evoke such a high and coming down can be sort of sad sometimes. thankfully, there's always another celebration to bake for, to craft for, to post about just around the corner... mother's day, I believe?
hoping you have a happy monday! two more days till the end of our first semester!
love, arielle
