mother's day is just around the corner, and as per most years, I'm coming up short. though, I'm not quite sure any of us will ever be able to spoil our moms like they deserve, so perhaps this initiative is futile. but I don't think mother's day is only for spoiling our mothers, either (though I will say, that is a very important part). I believe that mother's day is a day to spoil women everywhere because we are all potential mothers and we all possess the innate ability to nurture and love and care. whether we are stay-at-home moms or working women or both. whether we are rich or poor. we are all beautiful simply because we are women. I'll now step down from my soapbox and encourage you to show the wonderful, inspiring women in your life some love this sunday.
001. a mother's day card :: I am a big proponent of writing my feelings down. whether it's on my blog, in my journal, or to someone else via a super cute, handmade note. call me a sentimental. though I can't say it gets any simpler than this. this etsy shop has some really beautiful handmade paper products. some of which are perfect for mother's day!
002. the mom charm bangle :: I am not exaggerating when I say that alex and ani have a bracelet for everyone, but they excel when it comes to moms. it took me a fair amount of page scrolling to find the most perfect piece, which I eventually found after searching 'mom'. I should probably lead with that next time. this one even has a peony on it. it just doesn't get any better than that.
003. a bouquet (of peonies) :: you are listening to someone who believes every woman deserves peonies as often as humanly possible. even if she has to buy them for herself. they are nature's perfect flower. but regardless of type, every woman deserves flowers on mother's day. whether they be tulips, hydrangeas, roses, it doesn't matter. nothing is more feminine, or more girl power, than fresh blooms. visit your local florist (local is always better!) or here is the one click option.
004. a meaningful typography :: moms shouldn't have to wait till mother's day to hear how incredibly amazing they are. and this piece of typography can serve as a reminder all year round. even when we're traveling to far away places, she will keep this and know that she is loved. however, I don't think that means we should only put that love into words once a year, either. visit this little etsy shop for all sorts of typography finds.
005. scented candles :: you probably remember a few weeks back when I ranted and raved about various luxury candles. well, in addition to all of that obsessing, let me add that they are a perfect gift for any woman in your life. they can either be incredibly personal or simply friendly. and they smell amazing, too.
006. beautiful bath scents :: it is a rare day that I feel inclined to take a bath (being the germaphobe that I am). but I know several moms who swear by that twenty minutes a day they get to themselves in a nice, warm bubble bath. so find them a beautiful scent to help them relax. I recently rediscovered philosophy's amazing grace and re-fell-in-love. it's elegant and relaxing without all of the haunting perfume of some other options. plus, I'm a sucker for all of philosophy's inspirational bottle editorials.
007. jewelry :: what woman doesn't want jewelry? especially a simplistic, dainty piece like this. baublebar is full of pretty, yet affordable hardware for mom. and they are all so diverse. and there are even a few statement pieces I love here, here, and here.
008. kate spade wallet :: I think that if any one designer could do mother's day, it would probably be kate spade. all of her creations are classic with a bit of flare. and this wallet is no exception. I picked it because I know my own mother can appreciate this perfect layout and favors kate spade over many other designers.
009. a new shade :: most women have their signature shade, but maybe it's time to be a little daring. perhaps take a little trip to the make-up counter with mom, mom-in-law, grandma and just play around with different lipsticks, liners, and glosses until you find one (or a few) that suit her beautifully and that lie outside her norm. that way, she gets an afternoon with you celebrating her. and a little party favor to go with it.
pictured :: tory burch ramble on rose
010. the kinfolk table cookbook :: I'm a little biased. this cookbook is near the top of my amazon wishlist. so naturally, I think every mother should get it for mother's day. the kinfolk lifestyle really is picture-perfect. and I can only imagine that their cookbook will magically prepare mom picture-perfect meals without any effort on her part ;)
011. anthropologie villa apron :: anthro always has the cutest aprons. I remember meeting my roommate in college and she was wearing an anthro apron and I knew instantly that we'd get along. this apron is perfect for spring. perfect for mom. perfect for you when you're visiting ;) perfect everything.
012. tory burch's first fragrance :: okay, okay. I know I have featured this twice in one week. but I'm obsessed. it smells feminine and polished and modern. all while remaining classic. not unlike tory burch herself. its notes are sort of floral meets citrus meets sandalwood. pick up the gift set for mom at sephora (triple points until sunday!) along with a little sample so that she can try it out before that first spray.
I hope your mother's day prep is going smoothly and that you also remember to honor yourself and all of the other women in your life as the day draws nearer!
love, arielle
