TEN SIMPLE THINGS || EAT SLEEP SHOP

another week has come and gone and I can hardly believe it! this week has been so relaxing. we spent it catching up with family, eating favorite foods, snagging deals, and sleeping past the normal hour. mitch has even commented that he is ready to start his next semester, so I think that means this break has really lived up to everything it was supposed to be. though, I'm not so sure I am as ready as he is. thankfully, we still have a couple of days to travel back to our little paradise. now, for this week's ten simple things...

001 :: mom's cooking. is it just me, or does food always taste better when someone else has prepared it? as I've grown older, I have really missed having meals planned and cooked for me. don't get me wrong. I love to cook. but I can really appreciate getting a bit of a respite while my mom has prepped our meals. nothing else compares to home cooking and I'm finding that being the dishwasher isn't so bad.

002 :: fresh berries in the mornings. down in the caribbean, berries are a treat. this is partially due to availability and partially due to expense. still, fresh berries in a swath of yogurt and granola are one of my favorite breakfasts and I am definitely getting my fill while at home.

003 :: the 20+ inches of rain we've received since we arrived last week. mitch and I adore rain and were openly praying for days of it while we were visiting home. lucky for us, the gulf coast has been soaked with torrential pour since we've been here. sadly, maybe we prayed a little too fervently because people's homes have been flooded and businesses have had to close and major roads have crumbled. and in a small way, we feel responsible and will try to be more careful with our powerful praying abilities from now on. even so, we loved every minute of it.

004 :: the hours-long conversation the mister and I had at target. it was the weirdest thing we have done in a while and it just sort of happened. there we were, sitting in the middle of the baby section of all places, and we just start this life changing conversation { and it didn't even involve babies, go figure }. we talked about where we hope to be in two, five, ten years and how we want to be better people and better spouses. it was one of those conversations that brings a couple closer together. and it happened surrounded by rocking chairs and crib covers.

005 :: getting a mani/pedi thursday afternoon with my amazing mom. sometimes it's just so refreshing to feel like a girl and have someone else do for you what you usually do for yourself. plus, it gave my mom and I some much needed girl bonding time.
and my new favorite color? opi let them eat rice cake. I am totally obsessed. you can find it on ebay or from your wholesaler.

006 :: running on the beach in the mornings. nothing compares to the water splashing against your calves while you're breathing in that thick, salty air. there was a noticeable difference in the days I ran and the days I shrugged it off.

007 :: walking around home depot with mitch. he declared that he needed to feel like a man after my racing around to every girly store in town. he loves to meander around that manstrosity and dream about the perfect home that we will one day build together. it remotivates us both and helps us appreciate these times where everything always feels new and ever-changing.

008 :: hours spent catching up on books and fashion magazines at barnes&noble. especially when it's a little drizzly out, I love to just curl up with a cup of hot cocoa and peruse new styles and smell uncracked books. the whole idea just seems romantic to me, I guess.

009 :: tory burch's first fragrance. I have been looking for a new signature fragrance for a while. I toyed around with a couple { coco chanel mademoiselle and marc jacobs delight } but none of them smelled natural on me. being somewhat obsessed with the life and designs of tory burch, I had to give her first fragrance a go. and it was love at first sniff. it's one of those scents that smells like I could have woken up smelling that way or gone running through a field of peonies and come out still smelling just like myself. I think every woman deserves to find that signature bouquet. also, until mother's day, sephora is giving triple points to beauty insiders on fragrance purchases.

010 :: saturday mornings at the farmer's market. as a nutrition major, there is just something near and dear to my heart about fresh fruits and vegetables all piled on top of one another. it makes me feel clean inside. it is sort of the antithesis of the way I feel after eating too many macarons and/or croissants. I should really work on that this upcoming week.

love, arielle

  1. Really enjoyed having you home this week. And just for the record, I've cooked more consecutive meals this week than I have in a long time. The amazing thing is that I still remember how!! Can't wait for your next visit. Maybe we can get another mani/pedi and do the Farmer's Market again, I've loved having a kindred spirit to play with.
