a typical week in our caribbean household isn't so different from the weeks in our past american household. except that we maybe saw a lot more of each other back then. without exaggeration, it has been weeks since the mister and I have really sat down and had a real, honest-to-goodness, hey-I-know-you conversation. simply because we don't really get all that much time together. such is the life of a medical student and his wife. can any of you guys relate to that?
so his semesters are broken up into { about } 4-week increments and we call those blocks { see what I did there with the title? } and he finished his last block monday evening. so excited...except that he still has finals to study for. boo. but after those we'll get a weeklong holiday in america that we are both very thrilled about. I have truly missed my husband. and target :)
after blocks, I had originally planned to make tacos { mitch has been requesting homemade shells forever } and relax a bit while he went back to studying for next week's finals. but I'm pretty sure he was over studying because when he got home, he gave me that, "get ready; we're going out" face that I love so much and so we put off a humdrum night of tacos and studying and left for a night of re-getting-to-know-each-other...
mitch is enamored with all of the boats and planes that swing through here and he hadn't seen the cruise ship since we arrived on the island in january, so we headed down to the front street boardwalk where you get the most perfect view of them. there were three there, just waiting for him to gawk and awe at. he got really poetic, as he seldom does, saying things like "palaces on the water." needless to say, I swooned.
later, we tried a new german restaurant called bavaria. we both ordered the sauerbraten as it was recommended by some friends of ours. it wasn't really what we were expecting. I guess we were anticipating this crazy different eclectic meal and when it looked like pot roast and potatoes with red cabbage we were a little bemused. it still tasted delicious as the cook was originally from germany and knew her stuff. but it was the conversation that was much needed. we didn't talk about anything too significant. we talked about how we missed getting unlimited pop at restaurants in the states { don't take that for granted, btw } and debated what sport was more popular :: basketball or hockey. and how baseball season lasts way longer than it should. but ultimately, it was just getting a break from talking about budgets and schoolwork that was really so very necessary.
once finished, we went back to our apartment building and lounged out by the pool and watched those cruise ships sail off onto the sea with a full moon peeking through the clouds. it was very romantic and we both pointed that out several times 'cause we like to ruin the moment like that { werewolves may have been brought up, too }. we are so weird, but y'all knew that already ;)
almost a whole semester down!
love, arielle
