in my very short running career, I have had the opportunity to run in some really beautiful and diverse places. I get to add this eden to that ever-growing list. I started running seriously about a year and a half ago with a really good friend whilst still going to school. it's a rare occasion when you progress at the same rate as someone else, and I'm not sure I'll ever find another running buddy quite like her. but I'm a disappointment. I moved away and have been slacking ever since. three miles there. one mile here. I have my excuses, but in all reality, they are all pretty moot. back in february, I signed up for my third half-marathon--lululemon's seawheeze in vancouver--with the aforementioned ideal running buddy. I am so thrilled to run vancouver and to be reunited with my long lost partner in crime. however, this does mean I need to emerge from hibernation, dust off my running shoes, and get to work. just in time for spring!
the race is in august, so I have just under four months to prepare. and I thought I'd sort of document all of the pretty runs I undertake on the island while I train. I regret not getting pictures from all of the beautiful trails I've strode down or all of my runs through the mountains while the leaves were turning. so I'm shaping up my act..and my bum. and you guys are along for the ride.
somehow, I bamboozled mitch into coming along. he's a natural, but he gets so antsy that even though his body will let him run a marathon without any training, his mind is like 'let's go swimming.' and that's fine. and maybe more than a little unfair. to make it easy on his attention span, and my neglected legs, we only ran 5k { three times around the slac bridge }. we could have done better. but we most certainly could have done worse. so I take that as a win. the views from the bridge of the lagoon and marketplace are jaw-dropping and we were there at the perfect time of day. not only was the sun starting to sink in the sky, but the draw bridge lifted part-way through the last lap and mitch got to watch all the big boats sail by. he's pretty fascinated by all of the yachts and sailboats and catamarans that hang around there. so I got to tick that off our list of things to see.
this world is so enchanting. I hope that even if you don't get to run through beautiful meadows everyday { if you do, I'm envious! }, you can at least have a chance, every now and then, to get out in the world and stretch your legs.
stay tuned..there will be plenty more where this came from.
